MALIMGAS Market will soon get a makeover to give Dagupan City a more organized and customer-friendly public market.

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez recently consulted vendors at the first floor of the market on the plan and it was agreed that renovation work will start in January 2013 in consideration of the Christmas season, a peak sales period for the vendors.

Fernandez, accompanied by City Engineer Virginia Rosario and Market Division Supervisor Aguedo Sta. Maria, conducted an ocular inspection on the market to determine the needed repairs and improvements.

Among the planned changes will include the replacement of plain looking tiles at the meat and fish section with granite tiles, changing of rusty meat hooks with stainless types, providing more space for stalls and the major repairs to done on the drainage that emits foul odor.

The 123 vacant stalls at the first floor will be offered to vendors currently stationed around the vicinity of Malimgas.

Lahat ng nagtitinda sa paligid ng Malimgas Market ay ipapasok natin sa loob upang maging mas maayos,” Fernandez said.

FISH TRADING

Meanwhile, the newly formed Bangus Consignacion Operators have introduced reforms at the Magsaysay Market to protect the value of the Dagupan bangus and the interests of legitimate fish traders.

Danila Cayabyab, the group’s vice president for internal affairs, reported during the 13th Executive Session at CSI Stadia that her group has completed the accreditation of vendors and porters who will be supplied with IDs and uniforms.

Cayabyab also reported that incidents of theft have been remarkably reduced after Fernandez created a task force to look after street vulnerable.

“This is the beauty of co-managing the area where the city government and the consignacion operators pull their resources together to look after the improvement of the area. What is even good with the group is that they themselves discover what are the things to be done to make the area safe and friendly to fish traders,” disclosed Fernandez.

24-HOUR CLEANING

In another development, the mayor has also ordered the Waste Management Division to organize the street sweepers on a 24/7 rotational basis to keep the city clean at all times.

More cleaners will be hired to cover the 24-hour schedule. (CIO)
