A MORE comprehensive orientation-seminar has been prepared by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for newly-elected barangay officials who are serving their first term.

The Barangay Newly-Elected Officials (BNEO) seminar covers leadership strategies as well as fiscal management.

“The BNEO is for first-timer officials that  has modifed and made more comprehensive by the Local Government Academy for our officials,” said Jean Dawis, cluster head of the DILG Districts 3 and 4 in Pangasinan.

Four approaches will be used for the leadership training, including the traditional face-to-face orientation, Radyo Talakayan, WEBINAR specifically for highly-urbanized cities and coaching and mentoring.

The new officials will also be tutored on the  organization of barangay disaster and anti-drug abuse councils.

“Barangay officials should learn how to lead, administer, plan and even do accounting jobs because being a head of a barangay is not an easy job,” said Virgilio Sison, DILG chief in San Carlos City.

The barangay officials elected last October 28 assumed office on November 30.  (PIA-Pangasinan/VHS)
