Jason and Theo: Honored and rewarded by Urdaneta police
FOR EXEMPLARY HONESTY
LINGAYEN—The two street children in Urdaneta City, who demonstrated that honesty is important though penniless and hungry, are experiencing a dramatic turnaround in their lives that they never thought possible.
“Two Honestos” is how they are now tagged in the community and on social media after The PUNCH published their story as narrated by the local police station describing their excitement in returning an expensive digital camera they found in an eatery on October 21.
For their honesty, Jayson Manuel, 11 and Theo Dela Cruz, 8, both from Estrada Street, Barangay Poblacion, Urdaneta City were given recognition for their deed last Monday in a ceremony during the Provincial Police Office (PPO) regular Monday flag raising.
P/Sr. Supt. Marlou Chan, police provincial director, said the two kids displayed an example that honesty is very much alive and the trust of citizenry, especially of young children, to policemen is high.
The two kids were given a school bag and a new pair of shoes each.
Meanwhile an Australian who read the feature about Jayson and Theo on The PUNCH Online, has communicated with P/Supt. Jeff Fanged, Urdaneta City police chief, to offer assistance to the two kids.
On November 11, the two kids will be honored by the Urdaneta City government, according to Fanged.
Jayson and Theo turned over the camera to SPO1 Eduardo M Ragonton Jr., a member of Urdaneta City Police Station, they found while were routinely searching for food for the night.
The two boys will be adopted by the Urdaneta City Police Station and will fund their education and welfare needs. The financial support will be sourced by a joint undertaking by the Urdaneta City Police Station and the Pangasinan Police as part of their community service.
“You’ve changed the lives of the two, Ma’am. When I talked to them, I also felt their genuine action and statement,” P/Sr. Insp.Ryan Manongdo, spokesman of the PPO, told this writer.—Eva Visperas
