A UNIFIED agriculture information system will soon be established in Pangasinan to give farmers and local governments easy access to data that can help improve productivity as well as broaden market access.

The provincial government will enter into a partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA) for the implementation of the integrated social entrepreneurship and enterprise development system (iSEEDS) project, to be set up at the Provincial Planning and Development Office in Lingayen.

The project, using information and communication technology, is expected to hasten the growth and development of the agriculture and fishery industries in the province.

Provincial Administrator Rafael Baraan said the information will make the farmer a part of the mainstream market environment and will enable investors to be acquainted with them.

According to Baraan, the iSEEDS will widen the market base for products and create more   employment as well as encourage farmers to produce more.

The DA, through its Information Technology Center for Agriculture and Fisheries (ITCAF) and Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR), has engaged the services of Optiserve Technologies, Inc., an IT-enabled service provider and consulting firm engaged in product research and development, for the project.

Other involved agencies are Bureau of Agricultural Research, DA Regional Field Unit 1, Agricultural Training Institute Regional Training Center 1, Optiserve, Cooperative Development Authority, Pangasinan State University, and Pangasinan Corn Farmers Consortium.–Johanne R.
