SP approves unified agri-info system
LINGAYEN–Pangasinan will soon establish a unified agriculture information system to strengthen farmers’ decision-making skills and enhance the management and performance of farmers and fishermen cooperatives that will bolster productivity in the farm and fish sector.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan headed by Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. approved during their regular session last October 7 Provincial Resolution No. 129-2013 which authorizes Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. to enter into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Department of Agriculture (DA) and other concerned agencies for the implementation of the information-driven integrated social entrepreneurship and enterprise development system (iSEEDS) project in Pangasinan.
Under the project, the DA through the Information Technology Center for Agriculture and Fisheries (ITCAF) and Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) has tapped the services of Optiserve Technologies, Inc., an IT-enabled service provider and consulting firm engaged in product research and development.
Vice Governor Calimlim said the implementation of the project will further strengthen the growth and development of the agricultural and fishery industries in the province through modern technology.
Calimlim said that the MOA will strengthen the participation of local government units (LGUs), giving them access to relevant and timely information needed for planning.
The scheme, according to the vice governor, will adopt and implement an integrated monitoring and evaluation to develop shared information systems to further elevate the competitiveness of agri-business in the province.
iSEEDS project envisions the establishment of an appropriate decision-making tool to synergize the DA’s efforts with its attached agencies and regional offices in designing innovative farm resources management systems.
It is intended to improve the agriculture department’s information drive and its operational management strategy towards effective allocation, use, and monitoring of resources to ensure sustainability and profitability of small farmers and increase the country’s competitive advantage in agriculture.
The provincial resolution was authored by Board Member Danilo Uy, chair of the committee on agriculture and agrarian reform. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
