BARANGAY ELECTION

UMINGAN—An incumbent barangay chairman here seeking re-election was wounded when unidentified men fired at him while he was on his way to file his certificate of candidacy along with his political allies at the local Commission on Elections office Friday.

Wounded was Annam Barangay Kapitan Johnny Fulgusino, 48, married, who was driving a tricycle with three passengers around 8:15 a.m. along Barangay Lauren when the suspects riding a motorcycle shot him.

Police investigators assigned to the case are looking into possible motives, including politics.

PO3 Gudy Abella, investigator on case, said Fulgusino was hit in the neck, body and thigh.

One of his passengers sustained a minor injury when the motorcycle driven by Fulgusino fell into a shallow canal.

Fulgusino and his injured companion were rushed to the Umingan Community Hospital but the barangay chairman was later transferred to Dr. Chan Hospital in Rosales town.

As of press time, the victim is still under observation.–Eva Visperas
