Mangaldan gets Tapa processing equipment
MANGALDAN—This town’s popular carabeef tapa (Filipino-style dried meat), locally know as pindang, and other processed meat products will soon reach more places with the processing equipment donated to the municipality under the Shared Services Facility (SSF) program of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
The equipment worth almost P1 million was turned over by DTI Regional Director Florante Leal, along with 4th District Rep. Gina de Venecia, to Mayor Bona Parayno for use of local meat processors in making dried meat and other processed meat products.
The equipment set includes a meat grinder machine, slicer machine, mixer, tumbler, a vacuum packing machine and digital weighing scale with a 100-kilogram capacity.
Parayno said the equipment are “God-sent” because it could help revolutionize the local meat processing industry by facilitating higher output of their products which are already being marketed in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon.
Pindang is Mangaldan’s OTOP (One-town-one-product) and a “Pindang Festival” has been incorporated in the town’s annual fiesta.
The turnover of the equipment was attended by Councilor Freddie Soriano, president of the Association of Meat Entrepreneurs of Mangaldan, a registered a non-government organization (NGO), that earlier received a financial grant of P500,000 from De Venecia for the development of the meat processing industry.
Mangaldan is among the few towns in Pangasinan that operates a Double ‘A’ slaughterhouse, meaning its meat products can be sold in other parts of the country.
