Tayug acts to curb high malnutrition rate
TAYUG—This town was identified as having the highest malnutrition rate in the province last June, observed as Nutrition Month in the country.
Surprised and alarmed by the report, the municipal government immediately launched in mid-July a 120-day feeding program for 460 of the town’s most malnourished children.
Mayor Tyrone Agabas said this is an immediate intervention measure, which has so far proven successful as Tayug has gone down to 10th overall from number one.
More than half a million pesos was set aside by the municipal government to feed children four years and below on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for a total of 120 days.
Twelve feeding stations in as many barangays were set up at the Rural Health Units 1 and 2, Poblacion A and C, Amistad, Barangobong, Legaspi, Anao, Panganiban, Carriedo, Magallanes and Lichauco.
The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office identified the 460 beneficiaries.
