BALUNGAO–A winning councilor’s affiliation with the controversial Virgilio Garcillano Jr., the man at the center of the “Hello Garci” election-rigging scandal, might have actually helped in his candidacy in this remote town in the eastern side of the province.

Crisanto Luna, who lost in two previous elections, finally succeeded in getting himself elected in the last May 14 polls that ranked him 5th in the race for the town’s eight seats for councilors.

Luna, who ran under the ruling Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Biskeg na Pangasinan banners, is married to Garcillano’s sister, Marivic.

Unknown to many, Garcillano, who lost his congressional fight in Bukidnon, is actually from barangay San Leon here.

People in this town say that Garcillano, the controversial former Comelec commissioner, was a popular figure here and was even a guest-of-honor in a fiesta in his barangay before the “Hello Garcia” was exposed.

Garcillano is also supposedly known as a generous brother to his other siblings here, another source told The PUNCH.–EVA
