Dela Vega exhorts Pangasinenses: Keep faith
LOS ANGELES, California — Consul General Hellen Barber dela Vega exhorted overseas Filipinos especially her fellow Pangasinenses to have faith “in our people and country” notwithstanding the natural calamities and the controversial pork barrel issue.
She said President Aquino understands the scourge of corruption adding that the present national leadership made sure that a culture of integrity, accountability and transparency are being institutionalized.
The lady consul general was the guest speaker during the Pangasinan Brotherhood-USA’s 35th Anniversary Foundation Gala Night held at the Embassy Suites in Anaheim last week. She was introduced by PB-USA President Eddie C Ferrer.
Dela Vega disclosed that the government has taken a two-pronged approach that includes prudent disbursements of government funds and the use of people’s money to benefit the citizens.
“Our economy grew 6.6 percent in 2012 and 7.8 percent in the first quarter of 2013. Foreign direct investment on Apri 2013 was recorded $202 million, 61.6 higher than last year,” she said even as she emphasized that the country is not hopeless.
Meanwhile, 20-year old Miss Mangatarem’s Alyssa Veloria Soto was crowned Miss PB-USA She was also proclaimed the Most Photogenic and the winner in the evening gown competition. She was crowned by Ferrer and the outgoing Miss PB-USA Jazmyn dela Cruz Bacani.
Other beauties chosen are Maria Ilen Mandapat of San Carlos City as Miss Unity. She also won the national custome and talent competition. Miss Hope was 21-year old Melissa Marie Caringal of the Original Urdanetainians. Dagupan City Club of Southern California’s bet, Charisse Lim Maravilla, 23, was Miss Charity while Britanny Paula Kho, 20, is Miss Peace. – ljgalvez
