SENIOR citizens in Barangay Caranglaan took part in a cleanup drive in their community last September 11 under a Food-for-Work program of the city government.

Connie Fama, president of the Senior Citizens Federation-Caranglaan Chapter, said the activity is one way of encouraging their members to contribute to the community as well as keeping them physically active.

The elders were assigned to clean the Caranglaan Elementary School and some parts of the barangay road.

“This proves that we are still fit and capable of helping the community despite being retired,” said senior citizen Violeta Lalata.

The participants, numbering about 100, received food packs and rice in exchange for their labor.

Persons with disabilities who also attended the activity were also provided with meals.

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, who joined the activity, said the Food-for-Work program will be implemented in the city’s 31 barangays as part of the clean-up drive for the city’s creeks and rivers. (CIO)
