MANGALDAN National High School made its town proud by coming home as champion, out of 15 participating groups, from the 3rd ‘Banyuhay ng Wika’ sponsored by SM City Rosales on September 7, an event in celebration of National Language Month (Buwan ng Wika).
Coming in first runner-up was Daniel Maramba National High School, followed by San Antonio National High School, second runner-up.
Meanwhile, the Arboleda National High School won the People’s Choice Award garnering over 6,000 likes in Facebook.
The winners as well as all the participating groups received cash prizes.
The annual Banyuhay ng Wika showcases a Sabayang Pagbikas (choral recitation) and this year’s featured piece was Kung Tuyo na ang Luha, Aking Bayan by Amado Hernandez, whose 110th birthday is being commemorated this year.
The poem depicts criticism on social injustices, especially to the Filipino language.
Cesar P. Bondoc, regional operations manager for SM Supermalls North Luzon1, said the Banyuhay ng Wika encourages student participation in sharing the importance of the Filipino language to their community.
