Dagupan secures DA funding for slaughterhouse

By September 8, 2013Business, News

DAGUPAN City will soon build a slaughterhouse of its own after securing a P30-million grant from the Department of Agriculture (DA).

City Veterinary Officer Michael Maramba said the planned abattoir will be of AA standard, which means the output meat could be sold to markets outside the city.

Maramba said having a slaughterhouse will expedite the inspection process for the city veterinary office on live stocks and meat products before these are certified for sale in Dagupan’s markets.

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez said she, together with the City Engineer’s Office, will scout for a suitable location for the slaughterhouse, which will have its own waste treatment facility.

Mangaldan, a neigboring town, has long been operating a Double A slaughterhouse. (with report from CIO)
