AS part of her promise to observe transparency under her administration, Mayor Belen Fernandez launched last week a television show covering live her weekly meetings with city hall department heads.

The program, aired over cable television Kabaleyan Channel or K 17 every Wednesday starting at 2 p.m., is aimed at keeping residents posted on status of projects, programs and activities of each department, with particular focus on fiscal matters.

In the initial show last Wednesday, Fernandez and the department heads held a three-hour executive meeting on updates on the recent flooding disaster.

The department heads present were City Administrator Farah Decano, City Legal Officer George Mejia and City Planning and Development Officer Romeo Rosario, also chairman of the City’s Bids and Awards Committee and chair of the Water Quality Monitoring Task Force.

Reports from the City’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), Nutrition Office, Engineer’s office, City Health office, Budget office, Treasurer’s office, and Planning and Development office were discussed.

Fernandez said initial feedback from Dagupeños were positive and she intends to eventually have other meetings covered live as well, including the forthcoming budget hearings and consultations and those of the City Development Council’s activities.

Rhoderick Dawis, DILG director in Dagupan, hailed the initiative and said he will report this to the regional and national offices as a possible model practice for all local government units.

City Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo also commended the initiative but suggested that the next sessions be held in a venue bigger than the mayor’s conference room to accommodate more people in the live audience.

The program, hosted by Aksyon Radyo-Pangasinan News Director Violy Valdez-Ferrer, is aired weekly over the USATV’s channel 17.—with report from CIO
