SAN CARLOS CITY— Pangasinan is in mourning for the death of Dr. Jackson Dabu Soriano, chief of the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH), who succumbed to lung cancer in the evening of August 4, 2013.

The 54-year old doctor, who was also previously chief of other hospitals in the region, served the provincial government for 14 years.

Governor Amado Espino Jr. led the heads of the different departments of the provincial government, in the necrological service for Soriano, held at the PPH covered court on August 8, 2013.

Napakalaking kawalan sa ating probinsya si Dr. Jackson at napakalaking kawalan sa akin bilang isang kaibigan,” said Espino in his eulogy to Soriano, citing the late doctor’s work in the renovation and improvement of services and facilities of the PPH and the 14 public hospitals in the province.

Cited as one of the main contributions of Soriano was human resource improvement geared towards better services to hospital clients.

Soriano was working for the conversion of the PPH into a medical center before his demise.

The conversion would require the establishment of a training center, equipment expansion, hiring a specific number of specialized doctors, and meeting a required minimum number of patients.

“Hopefully, maituloy namin ‘yon,” said Espino, expressing optimism to achieve this before the end of his last term in 2016.

Soriano’s first medical practice was at the PPH, then known as the Bolingit Provincial Hospital, where he served as a medical specialist. He then moved on to the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center in Ilocos Sur in 1999 where he became hospital chief.

He was also chief of the Jose R. Memorial Medical Center in Manila and later moved to the Regional Medical Center (RIMC) in Dagupan City as chief of Medical Professionals Staff.

In March 2005, Soriano returned to PPH and became the hospital’s chief. He also assumed as officer-in-charge of Provincial Health Office in 2009.

Meanwhile, Atty. Wilhelm Soriano, brother of Jackson, thanked Espino and the rest of the provincial government for their support and prayers.

Soriano is the son of former Congressman Jack Soriano of San Carlos City.

He is survived by his wife Marilen and their three children, Jackleen Laurice, Joshua Lorraine and Josh Wilbur Lauren.–PIA-Pangasinan/VHS with report from Johanne R. Macob
