COLLECTION from rentals and cash tickets in Dagupan City’s markets increased in July, the first month of the administration of Mayor Belen Fernandez.

Market Division Chief Aguedo B. Sta. Maria reported a collection of more than P4.3 million last month, 17 percent higher than the P3.7 million collected during the same period last year.

“The amount was collected from the Magsaysay Market and the market proper in Galvan and Nueva streets,” said Sta. Maria, adding that the projected increase is likely to go even higher in August noting already the significant increases in the first week of the month.

On August 7 alone, P84,620 was collected from cash tickets alone, representing an increase of more than 91 percent compared to the same period last year.

“We were unable to collect this much before because the vendors and stall owners were always asking for leniency,” Sta. Maria said.

The bulk of the collection comes from bangus (milkfish) trading, the city’s prime industry, he added.

Sta. Maria attributed the improvement to the full implementation of the Revised Market Code upon the order of the mayor who stressed that this is part of her administration’s thrust of pagbabago.

The division now has 33 collectors, checkers and inspectors working in shifts.

Fernandez, meanwhile, congratulated and thanked the market stallholders and vendors for their cooperation. (CIO)
