SSS launches ‘Alkansiya’ project in Pangasinan
MORE than 100 tricycle drivers from Malasiqui and another 100 picnic shed owners in Tondaligan beach in Dagupan City are among the first recipients of the Social Security System’s (SSS) “Alkansiya” project in Pangasinan, which was launched in the province last July 31.
“Alkansya” is a nationwide project of the SSS that provided chosen members of cooperatives or groups an alkansya, Filipino equivalent of a piggy bank, where they can set aside P10 per day so they can save P300 a month, the amount for the monthly contribution of a self- employed SSS member.
Catalina Basbas, assistant branch manager of SSS Dagupan, said the project aims to reach the informal sector groups such as tricycle drivers and shed owners and encourage them to be SSS members.
At the end of every month, an SSS staff or a representative of their group will collect the contents of the alkansya and remit to SSS.
“This will save time and fare for them, aside from the fact that they will have no excuse to miss to pay their monthly contributions,” Basbas said.—Dada Martin Austria
