BARANGAY, SK ELECTIONS

A GOOD number of voters turned up for the registration organized by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the province starting last week for the October barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

On July 22, the first day of the registration, more than 4,600 new voters around the province registered for the barangay and regular elections.

Provincial election supervisor Marino Salas said he expects a 10 per cent to 20 per cent increase in the total number of registered voters for the October 28 polls.

Pangasinan’s total number of voters as of the May mid-term elections stands at 1,651,814, the third biggest voting population in the country.

SK REGISTRANTS

More than 10,000 SK registrants registered on the first day, with the biggest number

in Dagupan City at 711, followed by San Carlos City with 506 and Urdaneta with 246.

The Comelec in Pangasinan is expecting 50,000 to 70,000 new SK registrants, which cover Filipino citizens aged 15 to 17 years old on election day.

“So far so good. Everything went on smoothly,” Salas said.

Comelec offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, including Saturdays and Sundays until July 31 to accommodate the new registrants.–Eva Visperas
