City probes bank’s power connection
MC ADORE SIDE AGREEMENT?
COULD the city be unknowingly shouldering the electric consumption of the controversial newly-opened bank at the former MC Adore Hotel?
Mayor Belen Fernandez said she has asked her incoming legal officer, whom she did not name, to look into possible legal actions against City State Savings Bank that recently started operations at the old MC Adore hotel, once proven that it has been using an electric connection previously used by the police community precinct and it knew that the bill was being paid by the city government.
The mayor said that unless the bank can show proof of its payments for its electrical consumption, it is the city government that continues to pay for the bank’s electrical consumption.
The bank is owned by the AMB ALC Holdings and Management Co., the winner of the bid to own MC Adore properties conducted by the Lim administration.
“I still have to find out if the free access to the electrical connection was included in the sale of the MC Adore to AMC ALC Holdings,” she said.
According to the Dagupan Electric Corporation, the bank cannot be issued a new meter since it has not shown it has a building or renovation permit from the City Engineers Office, one of the requirements before the electric company could provide service.
Central to the power issue is Regional Trial Court Judge Mervin Jovito Samadan is ruling that declared the city council resolution giving Lim authority to negotiate the sale of the MC Adore properties as null and void.
City Engineer Virginia Rosario rejected the application of the bank for a building permit pending the resolution of the petition filed with AMB ALC company as intervenor questioning the decision of Judge Samadan.
The lawyers of the holding company recently held a press conference and denied allegations that the city government is paying for the bank’s electric bill.
They insisted the bank was allowed access to use an abandoned electric meter inside the hotel property that is already owned by their client, also the owner of the bank.
Former city administrator Vlad Mata did not clarify to then acting Mayor Fernandez about the status of the power service connection of the bank before he left his post.
