SP honors outgoing members
7TH SP CLOSES
LINGAYEN—Members of the 7th Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) held their last regular board session on June 24, giving special commendation to their outgoing colleagues.
“This 7th Sangguniang Panlalawigan has been a body that has supported the program of government of the honorable governor of the province of Pangasinan which has reaped regional awards both regional and national,” said re-elected Board Member Alfonso Bince, who sponsored the resolutions commending the six outgoing board members.
The outgoing SP members are Jeremy Agerico Rosario, Angel Baniqued Sr., Von Mark Mendoza, Teofilo Humilde Jr., Amadeo Espino, and Salvador Perez Jr.
Rosario served the board for two terms from 2007-2010 and 2010-2013 but lost in his bid as mayor in Manaoag in the May 13 elections. Likewise, Mendoza and Humilde both failed to win their mayoralty races in Lingayen and Alaminos City, respectively. Mendoza served the SP for three consecutive terms from 2004-2013 while Humilde served in 2010-2013.
Baniqued, who served the SP for 18 years from 1992-2001 and 2004-2013, will be replaced by his son and namesake in the board.
Perez, who is also the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) Provincial President, lost in his re-election bid after serving the board for one term.
Espino, meanwhile, will serve his town Bautista as mayor after being an SP member of the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th SPs.
All outgoing members of the board accepted their plaques of except for Perez who was absent.
The five also delivered their farewell messages.
“As my third successive term as member of this August body ends, I am feeling somewhat like a lawyer barred from practicing his profession or a fish barred from the waters, so to speak. I guess that’s how people with a passion for service would naturally feel especially those who have dedicated their lives in the service of our people and for our beloved province for several terms,” Mendoza also said.
ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORTS
Apart from the commendation of their colleagues, the SP through its secretary, Atty. Verna Perez, reported on the accomplishments of the body.
The SP passed 1,934 provincial resolutions, 293 of which originated from the body, reviewed and approved 1,513 city and municipal measures from the 47 component local government units, and enacted 36 provincial ordinances, including annual and supplemental budget “which have paved the way for a smooth accomplishment of the joint executive and legislative agenda of the present administration.”- Johanne R.
