BIR R1 tax collection up 19% in Q1
TAXES collected by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Region 1 was up by 19% from P2.2 billion from January-April 2012 to P2.7 billion in the same period this year.
Revenue District office (RDO) 4 based in Calasiao registered the biggest increase in tax collection among the seven RDOs in the region.
RDO 4 collected P802.4 million during the period in review, representing an increase of P177.6 million from last year which amounted only to P624.7 million.
Lawyer Eduardo Pagulayan, internal revenue assistant regional director, credited the increase to the agency’s collection efforts as well as the good economic situation for local business.
The top tax contributor among local businesses is still merchandising.
Pagulayan said their next focus for collection are the professionals who are not paying their taxes or not declaring their actual income.
“We are now doing surveillance”, he said.
Seven cases were already filed against seven tax evaders from the region.
The other RDOs had also increased their tax collection this year, RDO 3 based in San Fernando City, La Union with P88.2 million increase followed by RDO 1 in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte with P62.7 M; RDO 2 in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur with P47.9 M; RDO 5 in Alaminos City, Pangasinan with P35.1 M and RDO 6 Urdaneta City in Pangasinan with P22.7 million increase.—Dada Austria
