LINGAYEN—Embattled Senior Superintendent Marlou Chan, who is facing calls for his removal as provincial police director, is unperturbed by accusations of being biased in the last elections and said the provincial police force’s morale remains high.

“From the PO1 up to this representation, we have high-morale knowing na nagawa natin ang dapat at natugunan natin ang requirements ng mga mamamayan ng Pangasinan at nailunsad natin ang isang secured and fair elections 2013,” Chan said during their command conference at the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office on May 23.

Chan, stressing that his designation and assignment are the prerogative of the chain of command, said he will stay at his post until instructed otherwise.

The Pangasinan Mayors’ League signed a petition against Chan before the campaign started.

Chan said he has yet to receive copy of the petition.

More recently, re-elected Gov. Amado Espino Jr., immediately upon his proclamation, voiced his own call for Chan’s removal.

Chan is alleged to have been partisan during the election in favor generally of the ruling Liberal Party’s candidates.

Espino and the mayors who signed the petition belonged to opposing parties.

“We maintain our utmost impartiality and we enforce the law to whoever, regardless of political party or affiliation,” maintained Chan who was appointed as full-time provincial director by the National Headquarters effective May 10.

The provincial board claims that it was not informed about the permanent appointment.

ELECTION WORK

Meanwhile, Chan reported that that during the election period, the police arrested 14 persons for vote-buying activities.

The police also seized from those arrested P224,100 worth of money allegedly used to pay voters.

Chan also announced that the army augmentation will remain in the province to attend to contentious areas such as San Manuel.
