FORMER Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. must have been absent from Pangasinan for a long time that he no longer knows what is happening in his own province.

This was the immediate reaction of Provincial Administrator Rafael F. Baraan after De Venecia endorsed the candidacy for governor of Alaminos Mayor Hernani Braganza, the lone opponent of re-electionist Gov. Amado Espino Jr.

“The track record of Gov. Espino speaks for itself. Numerous regional and national awards that the province reaped are testimonies to this,” Baraan pointed out.

He listed the numerous awards, which include Region I Champion, DILG Gawad Pamana ng Lahi (considered as the mother of all local governance awards); Hall of Fame awards for local governance, regional development agenda implementer, Best LGU Practices (Project level), Best Medium Term Development Goal (MDG) project implementer, Most Statistically Advanced Province in Region I, and Best Coastal Resources Management Program implementer.

Baraan also noted that Pangasinan was awarded by the Department of Interior and Local Government as the 4th Best Performing Province in the country.

“So, I wonder where Speaker Joe de Venecia got his erroneous, if not politically malicious, pronouncements,” Baraan said.
