Hazard pay for WMD staff urged

DAGUPAN’S Waste Management Division (WMD) has again called on the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) to enact an ordinance providing hazard pay to the division’s employees.

WMD chief Teddy Villamil Jr. said in an interview on Wednesday that his personnel, given the nature of their jobs, are considered health workers and should be entitled to hazard pay.

“The WMD is involved in sanitation and among the departments concerned about public health,” Villamil stressed.

He added that WMD workers should also be provided non-financial compensations such as free medical check-up and medicine considering their exposure to health risks.

The WMD’s functions include street sweeping, garbage collection, recycling and maintenance of the controlled dumpsite located in Barangay Bonuan Gueset.

Villamil said he requested for it two years ago but the SP did not act on it after the first hearing.

“The hazard pay is a simple thing that should be addressed properly,” he appealed. (PIA-1 Pangasinan/ARF)
