Athletes, trainers off to Palarong Pambansa

LINGAYEN—The province’s best young athletes who will compete in the Palarong Pambansa 2013 were given a send-off last April 8 with the provincial government reiterating its full support for them.

Kasama ninyo ang aming dasal, kasama niyo ang aming suporta, kasama ninyo so Governor Amado T. Espino Jr.,” said Provincial Administrator Rafael Baraan as he wished the athletes and their coaches the best.

Baraan encouraged the athletes to do their best not just for themselves but for the province as well.

Sana iuwi niyo dito ang kampyonado sa Palarong Pambansa,” he said.

The Pangasinan contingent is composed of 277 athletes, coaches, and sports officials, 124 of whom represent Pangasinan 1 division, 103 from Pangasinan 2, 40 from Urdaneta City, and 10 from San Carlos City.

Dr. Bernardo de Guzman, Physical Education School Sports Supervisor of Pangasinan 1, said Pangasinan has the biggest delegation in this year’s Palarong Pambansa.

Virgilio Padilla, who represented Dr. Reynaldo Tomas of Urdaneta City Division, cited the developments in sports under the Espino administration and the effort to unite the different schools division.

The 200 athletes will compete in various sports events, including basketball, volleyball, swimming and sepak takraw.

Palarong Pambansa 2013 will be held in Dumaguete City on April 21-26.—Johanne R. Macob
