LABRADOR—Former Cibac party list Rep. Kim Lokin wants equal representation for women in politics and other professions saying it is high time their capabilities are suitably recognized.

Lokin, who was among the authors of the landmark law on Anti-Violence Against Women and Children, said more women should be given the chance to enter politics which is currently still dominated by men.

“I do not have a problem with men in politics but as they say, in every home, it would never be complete without a woman who is the mother and the light,” said Lokin, a congressional candidate for the 2nd District of Pangasinan.

“Let us help women entering politics or in any field for that matter because they have their potentials too,” she added.

Meanwhile, Lokin said the problem besetting women in the second congressional district of Pangasinan is livelihood opportunity.

She said she has programs, in coordination with the regional office of the Department of Labor and Employment through Director Grace Ursua, not only for women, but men as well to help address poverty.

She cited as an example a small seed capital for residents in Barangay Mapita, Aguilar town which she earlier gave and was used by recipients for their soft broom making.

The project was a success, she added.

When elected, she said she would also focus on health care, especially for women, saying that “when a mother gets sick, everyone in the family is affected”
