Le Tour de Filipinas 2013

DEFENDING Le Tour de Filipinas champion Baler Ravina of Asingan together with province mates Ronald Oranza of Villasis, Santy Barnachea of Umingan and El Joshua Cariño of Mangaldan lead a crafty team of Pangasinan cyclists ready to conquer anew this year’s Le Tour de Filipinas bikathon scheduled on April 13-16.

Mountain specialist Ravina, 32, who won the race year last by just 16.3 seconds over Singaporean Loh Sea Keong, will skipper the 7-Eleven/Road Bike Phils. squad while fellow eastern Pangasinan rider 2011 Ronda Pilipinas king Barnachea will banner the Phil. Navy/Standard Insurance and 2013 Ronda 2nd runner-up Oranza will co-skipper the national team.

The 19 year-old Cariño who finished fifth overall on this year’s Ronda will remain in the LBC MVPSF Cycling Pilipinas lineup.

According to Gary Cayton, Le Tour’s chief organizer, the four and ten other Pangasinenses will face formidable foes from Australia, Netherlands, Germany, Portugal, Ireland, Iran, Azerbaijan, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Brunei and Korea for the 608 kilometers road saga that will start in Bangui, Ilocos Norte and end at Baguio City’s Burnham Park via the treacherous Patapat and Kayapa roads.
