Dagupan, Alaminos listed as priority areas of concern
PNP ALERT UP IN 9 TOWNS, 4 CITIES
NINE municipalities and three of the four cities in the province have been listed by the police as “priority areas of concern” in the May 13 elections given the intense political rivalry and history of violence in past two elections.
Senior Superintendent Marlou Chan, officer-in-charge police provincial director, identified these as the municipalities of Bolinao, Infanta, Agno, Urbiztondo, Bugallon, Malasiqui, Rosales, Balungao, and San Manuel, and the cities of Alaminos City, Dagupan, and San Carlos.
Chan said they are closely monitoring the developments in these areas day to day.
He cited the case of Balungao where at least three killings are being linked to intense political rivalry as the victims are reportedly supporters of the contending parties.
At the same time, Chan assured that the police force remains impartial in their ongoing investigations in past killings.
More intensive investigations are being conducted, with the police going as far back as 2000 to look into possible related crimes.
“It has nothing to do with bias as alleged by some quarters,” he said, referring in particular to the case of Bolinao.
Chan also dispelled insinuations that the police are doing selective implementation of search warrants saying of the 51 warrants implemented under his watch, none was undertaken in Bolinao.
He stressed that a search warrant, which is issued by the court, undergoes a judicial process and is not simply under the control of the police.–Eva Visperas
