Lingayen Baywalk project gets funding
LINGAYEN—The planned Lingayen Baywalk project has received an initial P28 million fund from a partylist group and is now awaiting its Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Second District Rep. Leopoldo N. Bataoil, the prime mover of the project, said the money came from Ang Buhay Party List spearheaded by Rep. Mike Velarde Jr., that also funded the construction of the P10-million Tumbar Bridge connecting Lingayen and Barangay Bañaga in Bugallon.
“Maisasakatuparan na natin itong nabanggit ko noon, itong isang impact project in support of the tourism oriented programs of our province,” said Bataoil.
However, with the ban on new projects during election period, Bataoil will first have to ask the Department of Public Works and Highways to obtain an exemption from the Commission on Elections (ComElec).
Bataoil also acknowledged that the P28 million will not be enough to cover the entire project and appealed to other groups to assist.
“Hindi pa naman sapat actually na aabot ‘yan sa Binmaley pero ang mahalaga naumpisahan natin,” he said.
The baywalk project, that will start from the Lingayen beachfront leading towards Binmaley beach, will also serve as an alternate coastal road eventually.
The pathway will be constructed in accordance with the national road standards and will measure 6.70 meter-wide with 2.5-meter shouldering on both sides.
Bataoil said that he is now working closely with the provincial government to ensure the development of the project which he said will give additional attraction to the “historic and tourist-oriented Lingayen beach.”–Johanne R. Macob
