Manay Gina hails success of Pindang Festival
FOURTH District Rep. Manay de Venecia hailed the successful staging of the first Pindang Festival of Mangadan.
Noting the thousands of people that patiently lined up the streets under the blazing heat just to watch the Pindang Festival spectacle, Manay Gina said the organization was a cinch and said that it must be sustained throughout the years because it mirrors the struggle and sacrifices of the people of Mangaldan who made pindang a popular mouth-watering delicacy.
Pindang is dried carabeef, seasoned with vinegar, salt and black pepper, then fried. It can be dried meat, can be served in all meals — breakfast, lunch and supper — and in any type of season.
Residents said that the making of delicious pindang is a well guarded secret that they inherited from their ancestors and which they refuse to share with others than their children.
Now a treasured possession of the townspeople likened to a choice heirloom, the dried carabeef can also be found in other towns but the pindang from Mangaldan has come to be known as the best tasting. Products labeled as “Mangaldan Tapa” can now be found in the shelves of big supermarkets in Dagupan, Baguio and Manila, among other parts of the country.
Manay Gina considers pindang a delicacy borne from the hard work of the industrious people of Mangaldan who value their own culture and tradition and the work of their ancestors.
She also noted with pride that pindang-making remains a stable cottage industry among several households in Mangaldan from which they derive their income and have been able to send their children to school.
The man behind the first Pindang Festival was Councilor Ritchie Abalos who was inspired by his father, Mayor Berex Abalos.
It was Mayor Abalos who initiated the Pindang Festival, hoping that it will be sustained throughout the years as a permanent tourism come-on in the town during summer.
Manay Gina also paid tribute to the late Mayor Herminio Romero under whose incumbency the double “A” slaughterhouse of the town was established.
It was former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., Manay Gina’s husband, who built the town’s livestock market to boost the town’s cattle and carabao industry, the foundation of the Pindang Festival.
Manay Gina was the guest of honor and speaker and crowning guest during the Mangaldan town fiesta.
