Mangaldan’s hog raisers oppose hiked fee
LINGAYEN—Hog raisers in Mangaldan, with support from the town’s Sangguniang Bayan (SB), are opposing a provincial ordinance increasing several regulatory fees including the veterinary health certificate/inspection fee on swine from P10 to P100.
The SB passed a resolution fully supporting the petition of Mangaldan swine/hog traders and this has been forwarded to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), which was included in the provincial board’s agenda during the regular session last March 4.
The SP passed Tax Ordinance No. 01-2012, “An ordinance enacting the 2012 Revenue Code of the province of Pangasinan”, which covers the increase in various regulatory fees.
The hog traders of Mangaldan assert that the ten-fold hike in veterinary health certificate/inspection fee is excessive and unreasonable and has an adverse impact on their business as well as other hog raisers in the province.
“Taxes are the lifeblood of the nation but taxation has also the power to destroy life, liberty and livelihood,” the petitioners said.
They added that the fee increase would be a burden to the swine/hog business thereby violating the person’s right to free enterprise.—Eva Visperas
