CALASIAO—The Lingayen-Dagupan Archdiocese held a mass at 12 noon Thursday presided over by Archbishop Socrates Villegas at the Sts. Peter and Paul Parish here as Pope Benedict XVI officially leaves the papacy.

The mass, attended by priests, seminarians, and the laity, honored the love shown by Pope Benedict XVI to God and the Church, Villegas said.

“Love has inspired Pope Benedict VI to leave the papacy…He did this (resignation) not because of fear, not because he is coward, not because he is lazy. He did this because of his love for the Church and God,” Villegas said.

“At the sunset of our lives we will not be judged according to courage, according to patient endurance… At the sunset of life love is the only way in,” he said.—Eva Visperas
