Lingayen farmers get free rice thresher
LINGAYEN— A group of farmers and fisherfolks in Barangay Tumbar here received a rice thresher from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) under its livelihood assistance program.
Violeta Buenaventura, DOLE district representative based in Alaminos City, said the use of the thresher will be monitored and urged the farmers to make full use of the equipment.
“Pag-ingatan at pagyamanin sana ninyo ito dahil hindi po ito dole-out ng gobyerno. Imo-monitor po namin kayo upang makasiguro na nagagamit sa wastong paraan ang equipment,” Buenaventura said.
The thresher will benefit some 47 farmers in the village of Tumbar in Lingayen town.
Governor Amado Espino Jr. echoed DOLE’s call to the beneficiaries.
“This is the least that we can offer to our farmers and fishermen as of the time being. We urge you to take good care of this equipment as we thank our partner agencies like the DOLE,” said Espino who noted that Pangasinan will remain a mainly agricultural province for several more decades.
For his part, Anacleto delos Santos, president of the association, thanked the provincial government and DOLE for the equipment as he vowed on behalf of the group to use the equipment for its purpose. (PIA-Pangasinan/AMM)
