It’s Malangsi Fish-tival for Bayambang

BAYAMBANG—This town, known as the premier source of freshwater fishes like catfish and mudfish as well as fermented fish locally known as buro, has been given the go-signal to make Malangsi Fish-tival its official festival.

The name of the festival is derived from the Pangasinan word malangsi, the generic term used to refer to the various species of freshwater fishes abundant in the town, mainly from the Mangabul Lake.or malansa in Pilipino.

The provincial board approved last week the  ordinance institutionalizing Malangsi Fish-tival as the town’s official festival, equivalent to the famous Bangus Festival of Dagupan City.

In previous years, Malangsi Fish-tival, held in April, has proven to be a big crowd drawer and significantly contributed to the town’s tourism revenue.

The Malangsi Fish-tival is a community-led and government- supported tourism project to promote the tourism industry and showcase Bayambang as the center of freshwater fishes.–Eva Visperas
