R1AA delegates get into a brawl
LINGAYEN—Not only did the sun get hot during the Region I Athletic Association basketball competition last week, but tempers flared too among players and their mentors during one of the games in the afternoon of February 26.
Pangasinan I and Pangasinan II delegates got into a brawl at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) during their basketball game, leaving several of them with minor injuries.
According to the report submitted by Lingayen Police Station Chief Police P/Supt. Reynante Panay, the trouble started when Pangasinan I player Heterito Sandoval reportedly elbowed the other team’s player, Kim Clark Biala.
As a result, Biala fell and soon enough a heated argument between their colleagues followed.
The argument led to Sandoval’s teammate Jessie Mark Artatis reportedly punching Biala. Upon seeing this, Pangasinan II basketball team head coach Jesus Balani allegedly hit back by punching Artatis.
Meanwhile, Rommel Chan, one of the mentors of Pangasinan I team, after seeing what Balani did, intervened and punched Balani.
The delegates were pacified by the organizers and were then brought to police station where they settled their differences.
