WITH the arrival last Monday of the precinct count optical scanner (PCOS) machine from the Commission on Election (Comelec) central office, the Comelec provincial office is ready to start its educational road show by the end of the February or early March.

Lawyer Marino Salas, provincial election supervisor, said the road show aims to famliarize voters, especially the first timers, on the automated election system using a PCOS machine.

Salas requested the PCOS from the central office for an actual demonstration during the road show.

Salas said that even with just one sample machine, his office is optimistic that the whole province with the four cities in Pangasinan can be covered in time.

“We will most likely cover the whole province, one day in smaller areas while two days will be spent for the other bigger areas, we just  hope the PCOS machine will not break down,” he said.

Targetted as venues for the demonstrations are colleges and universities with the most numbers of first time voters..

Meanwhile, the training for the 25 core trainers for the PCOS technicians will start on February 25 along with the board of canvassers’ trainers and the board of election inspectors.

The training of some 1,118 teachers and IT experts who will operate the PCOS machines on election day will follow..—Dada Martin
