ABF Avenue rehab starts this month
OFFICIALS of Dagupan City, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and business owners have agreed in a meeting last February 19 to commence the rehabilitation of the Angel B. Fernandez Avenue not later than March 2.
The first phase of the project covers the construction of two lanes extending from the City Plaza to Rizal Street, approximately 400 meters in length.
Mayor Benjie Lim said the decision to first construct two instead of the whole four lanes is intended to minimize the impact on the city’s economic activities with the anticipated congestion of traffic.
Phase 1 is targeted to be completed on or before April 28 to give the city enough time to prepare for the Bangus Festival.
The rest of the road work will resume after the Festival in the first week of May.
The upgrading of A.B. Fernandez Avenue involves raising the road by about 40 centimeters to address the perennial flooding problem in the city’s downtown area.
The rehabilitation is funded by the DPWH, through the initiative of Fourth District Rep. Gina de Venecia, while the city government is allotting P8 million for the construction of sidewalk, drainage systems, and lamp posts.–Johanne R. Macob
