Processed “hot meat” seized in Dagupan

THE City Veterinary Office of Dagupan seized some 210 kilos of hot meat, which were already in the form of processed products such as longanisa and siomai, at the public market last Thursday.

Dr. Michael Maramba, city veterinarian, said the products came from Manila and transported through a passenger bus then transferred to a garong, (a local term for a tricycle with a sidecar designed to ferry pigs) instead of using the required refrigerated van.

Maramba also said meat products had no inspection certificate issued by the National Meat Inspection Service.

The hot meat products were supposed to be delivered to a certain Risa Quila, a meat vendor here.

Maramba said Quila’s permit will be revoked the next time a similar offense is committed.–Eva Visperas
