MANGALDAN—This town is all geared up for the celebration of its first Pindang Festival which will highlight its popular dried carabao meat product.

Mayor Bernardo Abalos announced that the main activities will be held on March 2 and 3, with street dancing and dance drama competition, best dressed duweg (carabao), a variery show, and a cookfest and rodeo on the many different ways of preparing pindang.

Pindang is a thin slice of dried and cured carabao meat, for which Mangaldan is known to be the producer of the tastiest varieties.

Abalos said that even when he was just running for vice mayor back in 2009, he was already keen on having such a festival because he wanted Mangaldan to have its own branding.

Other events in honor of the town’s different sectors will also be held, including a Sangguniang Kabataan Night; TODA, PODA, Farmers and Irrigators’ Night; Senior Citizens’ Night; Education Night; Celebrities Basketball Exhibition Game and People’s Night (Government workers, Balikbayan, and NGOs; Civic Parade and Mass Demonstration; Coronation Night of Miss Mangaldan 2013; 20th Werweran ed Mangaldan; and Barangay Night.

The municipal government launched the festival last December 10 following the approval of a municipal resolution authored by the mayor’s son, Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) Municipal President Ritchie Abalos.

The young Abalos is also the chairman of the Pindang Festival.–Johanne R. Macob
