Espino: Agbayanis must be planning ‘dagdag-bawas’
The finger-pointing continues.
Gubernatorial candidate Amado Espino Jr. turned the table on his opponents led by incumbent Governor Victor Agbayani on the issue of dagdag-bawas (vote padding-shaving), saying “possibly they’re the one thinking of it this coming elections”.
Espino told local newsmen Wednesday in Dagupan City that “Palagay ko iniisip niyang (referring to the governor) gawin yon (dagdag-bawas) kaya mina-mindset yong mga tao dito (I presume he is the one thinking of that so he is setting the mind of the people here).”
Agbayani, alongside Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz, held a press conference the previous week warning the public against the possible occurence of dagdag-bawas following reports they received from various sources.
They, however, did not name names.
Espino of the Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino is running against Agbayani’s wife, Dr. Jamie Eloise Agbayani (independent) and graduating Vice Governor Oscar Lambino (Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats).
A former military man and a retired police director, Espino said they call this tactic of the Agbayanis in intelligence parlance as “pre-emptive move by some people who want to do a different thing”.
“Ako, I will never do that and believe me, our group will never do that,” Espino stressed.
An unsigned letter circulated in Pangasinan coming from a teacher named only as “Filipinas” was distributed to newsmen exposing an alleged attempt to bribe teachers in Bugallon town to undertake dagdag-bawas in favor of Espino for amounts ranging from P50,000 to P100,000.
“It is unfortunate that in this campaign, our opponent (Agbayani) has resorted to maligning my person by instilling the element of fear and deception that have cast aspersion on my person and my family,” Espino said.
He said he has so much respect for the teachers.
He said his candidacy is for the millions of Pangasinenses who had been under the control of only one family, referring to the Agbayanis, for nearly three decades.
He said it is disgusting that someone (referring to Mrs. Agbayani) who is not from Pangasinan and does not even speak the province’s language is being pushed to be the governor.
The incumbent governor’s father held the position from 1971 to 1986 and from 1992-1995. The current governor served the maximum three-year successive terms until this year.–EVA
