THE Liberal Party team for Calasiao led by mayoral candidate Wilson Tigno de Vera “will craft a business-based program for the town where economic potential and opportunities will be equitably shared by the people.”

De Vera, chief operating officer of Ph Trams, exclusive service provider for Metro Transit Railway in Metro Manila, told the media last week that his team “will not be a part of any program that only promotes the economic opportunities for a select few, but all, at least the majority, especially the poor and marginalized.”

For his part, former vice mayor Ferdinand Galang, a candidate for his former position, said he will be active in providing jobs for Calasiao folk, including those in search of overseas work. His older brother Neil, is an influential Filipino-Australian association president in Sydney, Australia.

Active in world fish marketing and management in Papua New Guinea, De Vera hopes to harness manpower sourcing in his town, citing his business contacts abroad.

DE VERA

De Vera has been involved in international management, marketing and consultancy. He is chief operating officer of Makati City-based Northern Explorer Development Corporation Inc.

Rommel Cardinoza, De Vera’s technical assistant, said the town can be counted as lucky for serving as a catchment for Dagupan City’s economic spills, adding “we need to be proactive and redesign the town’s economic growth to prevent topsy-turvy growth and avoid wastage and anticipate new growth potential and directions.”

He said the incumbent leadership did not have a shared growth program, even as he criticized a family’s tendency to corner the town’s juicy positions in the municipal government.

“Under our group, we shall observe the motto, ‘walang iwanan and shared growth’,” De Vera said.

De Vera, a cousin of former mayor Felipe de Vera Jr. who is acting as the party’s campaign manager, said his consultations with the town’s political and civic leaders will cough up a comprehensive and well defined socio-economic program that will permeate every economic crevice of Calasiao and blossom into an aggressive local government unit in the near future.
