ROSALES—The Tarlac-Pangasinan- La Union Expressway (TPLEX), currently under construction, is expected to further boost this growing municipality’s economy after one of its interchanges is finally completed.

The interchange, which will improve access to this once sleepy agricultural town, was recently relocated from its original location in consideration of a proposal from Mayor Ricardo V. Revita to improve vehicular traffic flow along the main streets of Rosales.

The relocation of the interchange from Barangay Tumana to Barangay Palakipak was recently approved by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Revita said the DPWH’s response to his proposal will go a long way for the town’s development since the interchange will improve road access to the interior parts of the town from Mc Arthur Highway, the main national thoroughfare.

The mayor opposed the original plan because he said it would not only create traffic congestion it being close to the town’s public market but it would leave no more room for development in the area.

He said the new interchange will provide direct link to other barangays, including the area on the opposite side of the former Carmen Bus Terminal, San Bartolome, Cabalaongan Norte, Sitio Barangobong, Sitio Macatae, (Station District) and Acop-Calanutan Roads.

BUSINESS EXPANSION

Revita announced the approval of his proposal last January 21 and he said the town’s businessmen and investors have since expressed interest in acquiring lots in the area for the expansion of their operations.

Among those who are looking at business opportunities are owners of eateries, gasoline stations, computer/ internet shops, boarding houses, parlors, sing-along bars, car- wash, amusement places, and inns, among others.

The mayor is also optimistic that better access will further improve the town’s tourism industry.

“Tourism level is seeing a stable increase in the subsequent months as we continue to campaign, especially with the great success of the recent 5th Ibtor Challenge,” said Revita.

The Ibtor Challenge, initiated by Revita, is a unique triathlon event where the usual swimming, cycling, and running events are given a twist in line with the town’s culture and topography.
