Tally: 15 firearms seized
GUN BAN
LINGAYEN—The police have so far seized 15 assorted firearms since the implementation of nationwide gun ban last January 13 in line with the May elections.
Senior Superintendent Marlou Chan, officer-in-charge provincial director, said Wednesday that four out of the 15 guns were confiscated from men on board motorcycles upon inspection at checkpoint operations across the province.
Most of these were short firearms like caliber .45 pistol, 9 mm and .38.
Chan said checkpoints in strategic areas across Pangasinan are on-going on 24/7 operations and policemen manning them observe utmost courtesy while performing their duties.
Barangay Captain Robert Valdez Jorgio, 45, married, of Barangay Macabito, Calasiao was the first person arrested in Pangasinan at the start of the gun ban when policemen in Malasiqui town flagged him down on board his motorcycle in a checkpoint and seized from him a caliber .45, which does not bear a gun ban exemption from the Commission on Elections.
Jorgio’s caliber .45 has permit to carry but he didn’t have gun ban exemption to carry it outside his residence.
SEARCH WARRANTS
Six other guns were seized through search warrants against owners who are target personalities under the Pangasinan Police Office watch list.
Others were from warrants of arrest focused on police operations against loose firearms and arrest of wanted persons through Regional Special Operations Task Group-Pangasinan directed operations under Senior Superintendent Jonathan Miano, the newly-designated deputy regional director for operations of Police Regional Office 1.
The latest gun seized was on January 22 after elements of Bani Police Station and Provincial Public Safety Command 1st Manuever Platoon in Alaminos City a implemented search warrant against Metham Veloria, 52, farmer and resident of Barangay Quinaoayanan, Bani and confiscated from him one caliber .38 revolver loaded with five live ammunition,28 pieces live ammunition for caliber.22 and six live ammunitions for caliber .22 Magnum.—Eva Visperas
