Bangus Festival 2007 opens

Seasoned cooks demonstrated the versatility of bangus (milkfish), as a food fare in the 101 Ways to Cook Bangus signaling the start of the week-long Bangus Festival 2007 celebration last Friday.

Following the culinary feast at the People’s Astrodome, a motorcade was held participated in by all major sponsors, the Bangus Fest committee, city government employees and various non-governmental organizations.

One of the new events introduced in this year’s celebration is the Pigar-pigar challenge, a competition for the best cook of the dish that is uniquely DagupeƱo. Pigar-pigar is thinly sliced beef or carabeef-deep-fried and cooked medium rare and garnished with onion rings, popularly sold at the city’s road shoulders in the evening.

Various concerts have also been lined up during the whole week. Other highlights of this year’s Bangus Festival include Bangus Rodeo (April 29); Gilon!Gilon! Street Dancing (April 29) and Search for Bangus Fest King and Queen (May 1).
