LINGAYEN–After a more than three-year posting in Dagupan City, Dr. Alma Ruby Torio is back to her previous post as Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) of the Department of Education (DepEd) Pangasinan I Division.

“…this reassignment order is a regular personnel movement in our department so wala pong ibang dahilan…hindi lang po ako ang affected ng movement,” said Torio who received her reassignment signed by the DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro order last January 11.

After addressing the Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP) in the regular board session on January 14, the board members passed a resolution “welcoming and formally accepting the appointment” of Torio as the SDS of Pangasinan I.

When asked of her plans for the division, Torio said, “Ang thrust ng DepEd ay ‘yong kapakanan ng mga bata so we would like to develop these school children to possess the 21st century skills…dapat functionally literate sila, na dapat marunong silang mag-decide, dapat productive sila, ‘yong life-long learning skills.”

Torio also vowed she will continue implementing the school-based management (SBM) program and the student-centered learning system.

She also urged the public to support the new K to 12 program saying, “Ang K to 12 ay para mabigyan ng better employment opportunities ‘yong mga bata. Pagdating nila sa grades 11-12, junior high school at senior high school, bibigyan natin sila ng special skills para pag-graduate nila pwede na silang magtrabaho; pag na-decide naman nila na mag-college, mas ready sila.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Gloria Torres, former Assistant SDS of Urdaneta City Division, will assume Torio’s previous office as superintendent of Dagupan City Division.– Johanne R. Macob  with report from PNA
