DENR Sec. Reyes, guest in Earth Day rite
The April 24 world celebration of Earth Day will be observed in Dagupan City will be spearheaded by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), in cooperation with various environment groups, schools and the city government.
Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Angelo Reyes, who will grace the celebration, has called on all sectors to save Mother Earth by joining the campaign for clean air and water, for water security, for sustainable extraction, for biodiversity conservation, climate change reversal and garbage-free communities.
PENRO official Leduina Co said the highlight of the event will be the “Alay Lakad para sa Kalikasan” which will start at 6:30 a.m. It will be followed by an eco-revolution concert with famous environmentalist singer Gary Granada.
There will also be a signing of a memorandum of agreement between the DENR and Lyceum Northwestern University who will be represented by Atty. Gonzalo Duque, for the distribution of Free Patents under the DENR’s Handog Titulo program to farmer-beneficiaries of Central Pangasinan.
LNU has expressed its support for the DENR’s program on Green Philippines with the school’s seedling production project.
Expected to witness the signing of the MOA are Director Evelyn Pascua of the Commission on Higher Education, Technical Education Skills Development Authority Director Washington Agustin, and Department of Education Regional Director Ligaya Miguel.
Co said the Earth Day celebration is being supported by schools, religious groups, business sector, media, environmentalists from Kilusang Vigilantes ng Pangasinan, Tanggol Kalikasan and the local government units of Urdaneta, Calasiao, Mabini, Villasis, Sual, Bani, Mangaldan and Binmaley.
