Pangasinan tops tourism investments in R1
LINGAYEN–Pangasinan remains as the number one destination of foreign and local investors eyeing to put up tourism-oriented establishments in Region 1.
Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Director Martin Valera said there is a lot of interest and optimism from the private sector to invest in the Ilocos Region, particularly Pangasinan.
Investors are keen on setting up various accommodations such as business hotels, inns, pension and lodging houses, and small resorts.
Some are boosting existing facilities by putting up zip lines and other adventure and leisure attractions such as boating, adventure trails, and spelunking, among others.
Investors are acknowledging the potential of Pangasinan given its many various natural attractions over a wide land area with varied topography, the DOT said.
In 2011, Pangasinan also had the biggest share of visitor traffic, besting the provinces of La Union, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur.
FESTIVALS
Valera said fiestas and festivals have also enhanced tourism in many places in Region 1 by attracting visitors and providing opportunities for the sale of goods, including curio and souvenir items.
He noted that in Region 1, local government units on average get a 25 per cent return on investments in the festival celebration.
