Fernandez hits disinformation on his health

Mayoralty candidate Alipio Fernandez Jr., who is seeking to return to the top post in Dagupan under the “United Dagupan” ticket, has belied rumors that his son will soon be running as his substitute.

In an interview during a brief respite in his campaign in barangay Bonuan Gueset here, Fernandez deplored the disinformation allegedly being peddled by the opposing camp that he is now too old and sick to finish the race.

The elder Fernandez said the fact that he is campaigning house-to-house non-stop under the blazing noonday sun only goes to show that claims from the opposing camp that he is now physically weak are unfounded.

Fernandez was a three-term mayor from 1992 to 2001 and later appointed as commissioner for the Bureau of Immigration. His son, Alvin, the incumbent vice mayor, is not running for any position and serves as the general campaign manager of the United Dagupan team.

The resigned immigration commissioner called on members of the opposing team from the PDP Laban party to just do a high level campaign.

“We are campaigning on a high ground. We offer ourselves in the service of local governance in our city, particularly on fiscal administration and on the need to put to review local taxation” he said.

Fernandez is running with former Councilor Belen Fernandez, president and general manager of the CSI Group of Companies, as vice mayor along with 10 candidates for councilor.

The powerhouse “United Dagupan” is the local version of the Team Unity. The team is campaigning side by side with Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., a candidate for congressman in the fourth district.

Fernandez is up against political neophyte Brian Lim, the 28-year old son of incumbent Mayor Benjamin Lim who, in turn, is running against Speaker Jose De Venecia, Jr.—LM
