Police officers under probe for politicking

LINGAYEN—An official of the National Police Commission (Napolcom) has admitted that several police officers in Pangasinan are being investigated for their alleged involvement in partisan politics.

In a talk with newsmen, Napolcom Provincial Officer Benigno Dizon declined to name the police officers under investigation but warned other members of the police force to stay away from matters that should be left to politicians.

Dizon, however, clarified that based on reports from the provincial director, Dagupan City Police Chief P/Supt. Edgar Basbas and San Fabian Police Chief Leopoldo Rivera are on personal leave and have not been forced to do so.

Dizon said that the leaves of Basbas and Rivera were filed for personal reasons but did not clarify further.

It was learned that the original five- day leave applied for by Basbas was extended for a longer period for a still unknown reason.—APE
