Drug stores warned vs. dealers
Beware of illegal drug dealers.
The chief of Standards and Regulation Division (SRD) of the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) region 1 issued the alert and warned drugstore owners not to patronize the “drug peddlers on wheels”.
Dr. Reynaldo Jacinto, SRD chief, told The PUNCH in a phone interview that these drug peddlers continue to operate with impunity in the Ilocos region although they operate without the benefit of a licensed depot where drug inventories are normally kept.
He said the peddlers are highly mobile salesmen aggressively selling medicines, offering cash incentives and rebates on “special offers:”
“Drug distribution is legitimate in a place where the dealers are licensed to operate. However the moment they carry their stocks in a van, sell it to drugstores, that’s illegal,” Jacinto said.
He added that peddling is illegal because the van used to carry the inventory becomes an extension of their warehouses, say in Pampanga, Cabanatuan or Manila, he said.
